| Struck Speechless Stephen
receives a letter notifying him of an opportunity for Winslow to win a $250,000
cash prize in a contest. Each school must send one delegate to
deliver a speech before a distinguished panel of judges. Stephen
opts to use a lottery system to select Winslow's representative, only to
regret his attempt at fairness when the winner comes up as none other than
Harvey Lipschultz. He momentarily waffles over having Harvey
attend the contest, but decides to stand by the result of the
lottery. He assigns Marla and Lauren as Harvey's coaches
in the
hopes that they will help him put his best foot forward, or to at least
prevent him from putting his foot in his mouth. Alas, no such
luck! Harvey makes a bigotry-laden speech which has his fellow
faculty members trying to slide under their chairs in embarrassment.
However, due to a lack of entrants from Winslow's district
Harvey is automatically bumped up to the finals and is expected to make
yet another appearance in front of a crowd in Winslow's name.
In the Swim of things
Student Debbie Nixon's mother pays a visit to Stephen to
voice a concern that Debbie (Tamara
Bass) may be involved with teacher
Danny Hansen. The source of this fear? Debbie's own
diary! It becomes apparent that Debbie and Danny are frequently in
each other's company after school hours, but upon investigating Stephen
discovers that the pair are volunteering as swimming buddies for children
with Cerebral Palsy. He tells Danny about an entry in Debbie's journal
where she writes about how hard she is falling for her teacher, leading
Stephen to suggest that he back off. Danny acquiesces, but changes his mind when an embarrassed
and heartbroken Debbie tells him she doesn't want to let the kids down. She promises not to let her crush interfere with her
student-teacher relationship with Danny, who in return promises to forget
he ever knew that she had feelings for him.
Worth a Thousand words
Marilyn Sudor distributes disposable cameras to her
class and assigns them the task of submitting a photo-essay of one picture
apiece. The photos would then be put on display in the hall, and
will also be presented in the form of a slide show. One particular
student, Darren (?) returns with a photo of naked children which
has Marilyn scrambling to make the decision as to whether or not it is
child pornography.
She chooses to err on the side of caution and
alerts Guber and Mr. Lick, as well as the parents of the child, whom Darren photographed while
babysitting. Social Services and the police are called in to investigate as
well. Marilyn feels that perhaps she jumped the gun on this one, and
tells that the picture, which she's decided is not
pornographic, has earned an "A." Darren wonders that
if this is truly the case, why his picture is not on public display with
all of the others.
She loves me, She loves me not

Scott expresses his frustration to Meredith that he just
can't seem to score any point s with Jeremy. Meredith suggests that
he come along to one of their mother-son counseling sessions to see if
they can't start a dialogue. But when the time comes the words of
anger that leave Jeremy's mouth aren't directed at Scott.
It would
seem that Jeremy has never felt any affection from his mother and assumed
that she was incapable of showing it. But she clearly has been able
to do so with her new boyfriend, and it has her son seeing red. In
fact he was angry enough to try and drop a planter on her head.
(Yes, he was aiming for Meredith and not Scott as we all thought.)
